I am in shock after seeing and hearing the devastation that hurricane Melissa brought to my hometown of Black River in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica. On Tuesday, October 28, 2025, the community endured severe damage, which resulted in widespread destruction of infrastructure and the tragic loss of lives. The hurricane has also deeply affected the livelihoods of residents, leaving many in a state of uncertainty and distress.
On November 5, 2025, just a day after my birthday, I had a conversation with my dad—one of the best birthday gifts I could have received. I'm grateful to hear that my other relatives in St. Elizabeth, as well as my friends, are safe and well. This news offers great comfort during these difficult times.
The road to recovery will be gradual, given the extent of the damage. However, I am confident in the resilience of Jamaicans. We have always found strength in adversity, and I believe that, no matter how long it takes, we will rebuild our community together. I am grateful to God for the safety of my loved ones and continue to pray for my hometown of Black River, as well as for all areas in Jamaica affected by hurricane Melissa.
We launched this fundraiser to help the people of Black River in St. Elizabeth, who are facing significant needs during this period of devastation. Please keep those affected by the hurricane in your prayers. Thank you for your donation.
